American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar
The ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar is a commonly referenced primary source for data about law schools. Most information from required Standard 509 Information Reports is housed here. The Legal Education Statistics page has a number of archived and longitudinal datasets, whereas the 509 Required Disclosures page offers downloadable files with 509 data from current and past years. The ABA also provides data about lawyers on the Legal Profession Statistics page.
Council of Graduate Schools
CGS, which represents roughly 500 member graduate schools, offers a wide variety of data resources about graduate education. CGS also conducts a number of Best Practices projects intended to address common challenges in graduate education.
Law School Admission Council
LSAC offers the most up to date information about law school applications and applicants. Using the LSAC website, users have access to a wide variety of information about the next class of applicants and there are several dynamic tools which allow users to view applicants and applications in different ways. The Current Volume Summaries, which are updated frequently, provide the most recent numbers of applicants and applications to law school. Please note that some data resources from LSAC require institutional login credentials.
National Association for Law Placement
NALP is the go-to resource for information about legal employment and recruiting, offering data on demographics, professional development, salaries and compensation, trends, and other important topics.
Rosenblatt’s Deans Database
This resource offers information about current and former law school deans, including length of service and law school attended. Data are not downloadable.
U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics
NCES is the primary federal entity for collecting and reporting data about education. The Data Tools page is the best place to start exploring available resources.
