Iowa bill seeks to force state universities into holding in-person graduation ceremonies

THE GAZETTE — Although the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa already announced their upcoming commencement ceremonies will be virtual — and are well into planning them — a Republican lawmaker is sponsoring a bill requiring Iowa’s public universities to hold in-person spring graduations.

ABA rejects law school deans’ request to delay reporting of graduate employment data due to the pandemic

ABA JOURNAL — The council of the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar will not be granting a request to push the employment data deadline from March to June. Issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a Feb. 10 letter signed by law school deans in New York, New Jersey and California requesting the delay.

ABA urges government to expand loan assistance and forgiveness programs for law graduates

REUTERS — The American Bar Association passed a resolution Monday that throws the lawyer group’s weight behind political efforts to aid law school graduates drowning in debt, as the Biden administration grapples with how to best address that issue. The resolution urges Congress and the Biden administration to implement measures.

Law school deans ask to delay reporting graduate employment data to the ABA due to the pandemic

ABA JOURNAL — Law school deans have asked the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar to push back law graduate employment data deadline from March to June. The data is usually made public in the spring or early summer. The pandemic has pushed back many bar exams and led to economic shutdowns.

A year after the earliest Covid-19 cases hit the United States prompting a near-shutdown of the economy, there are more law firms and corporate legal departments hiring employees in 2021 than there are letting them go.

Survey looks at law firm salary and lawyer alma mater

LAW FUEL — A recent American law publication survey of partners earnings showed that over half of partners who earned over $500,000 were from the top 25 law schools in the US. By contrast, under 40 per cent that hit that half million dollar threshold attended law schools with rankings of 26 or higher.
