Updated ABA bar pass standard to consider pandemic challenges and students practicing under diploma privilege

ABA JOURNAL — Law schools now must report the number of recent graduates admitted by diploma privilege in their annual questionnaires in addition to those who took and passed a bar exam. In a remote meeting Friday, the council of the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar adopted the revision as proposed.

California Bar working group endorses supervised practice requirements

THE RECORDER/LAW.COM — A state bar committee on Friday endorsed a path to full licensure for certain recent law school graduates who have taken but not passed California’s bar exam. The Provisional Licensure Working Group adopted two sets of supervised practice requirements.

Florida releases October online bar exam results

CBS 12 — The bar exam was delayed twice as a result of COVID-19, preventing students from getting the opportunity to begin their careers. The test was administered online and students were only tested for Florida-specific laws and not federal laws like previous tests. There was a 72 percent pass rate statewide.

Florida to hold February bar exam remotely due to rising COIVD-19 cases

BLOOMBERG LAW — Florida in February will again hold its bar exam remotely to avoid exposing test-takers to the coronavirus, the state’s Supreme Court announced Wednesday as cases spiked in the state. The court didn’t want to risk canceling an in-person test as it did in July amid a worrisome increase in Covid-19 cases.

Software contractor for Georgia bar exam heads to federal court over negligence claims

BLOOMBERG LAW — ILG Technologies LLC convinced a federal judge that only negligent misrepresentation claims can proceed in a case brought by a group of Georgia bar applicants after a software glitch caused them to be wrongly told they failed the exam.

Indiana to hold February bar exam remotely

WIBC — The Indiana Supreme Court has unanimously ordered adjustments to future bar exams. They are making the adjustments due to concerns about the coronavirus and after reviewing a report called the “Study Commission on the Future of the Indiana Bar Examination.”

North Carolina to hold February bar exam remotely due to rising COIVD-19 cases

LAW360 — The North Carolina Board of Law Examiners announced Monday it would hold the February 2021 bar exam remotely after refusing to adopt such an option for the July 2020 exam, citing the availability of new options from the National Council of Bar Examiners and the state’s rising COVID-19 cases.

Syracuse Law to use proctoring software for some exams

Survey: Some prospective college students reconsider education plans amid pandemic

Further, 43 percent of prospective students for one- and two-year programs are looking to delay enrollment. Those are two findings of a national survey of prospective college students.
