2021 Annual Meeting Will Be Virtual

Given the risks posed by COVID-19, and considering feedback gathered from faculty and deans across the country, AALS has decided to hold the 2021 AALS Annual Meeting in a virtual format rather than in person. While we are disappointed that we will not be able to meet in San Francisco, we are excited about the opportunities for innovation that a virtual format provides without the need for travel or hotel arrangements.

AALS remains committed to delivering quality professional development programs to all faculty and administrators who wish to attend our events. In pursuit of greater accessibility for more diverse groups within legal academia, we have offered a school registration rate rather than only an individual registration for the 2021 meeting. If the law school you work for accepts the school registration, you and every other fulltime faculty member and senior administrator may attend without any charge.

Individuals at schools that do not accept the school rate may register at an individual rate of $295—a more than 40 percent reduction from the rate for the 2020 in-person meeting.

The 2021 Annual Meeting will be held on the same dates previously scheduled: Tuesday, January 5 through Saturday, January 9, with sessions taking place each day between 11 am—7 pm Eastern/ 8 am–4 pm Pacific. Look for the preliminary program to be released soon. Sessions in a variety of formats will cover pressing legal issues and emerging perspectives on law and legal education. Each AALS Section will present at least one session per usual, and AALS will also offer our usual open source, discussion group, hot topic, and arc of career sessions from calls for proposals. Several programs will be also organized under AALS President Darby Dickerson’s theme, “The Power of Words.”

We thank you for your support, understanding, and patience throughout the planning process. More information on the 2021 AALS Annual Meeting will be coming soon at am.aals.org. We look forward to seeing you there.
